Bright Lights, Big City
What do you know about England's capital city? Where in London have you visited? How did you get there?
In our new topic, starting in January, we will be learning all about London.
We will be finding out about transport and famous Landmarks.
We will also be stepping back in time to discover what happened in the Great Fire of London. Where did it start? How did it end?
We are collecting junk modelling items e.g. cardboard boxes and tubes, plastic pots, lids ready for our new topic Bright Lights, Big city. Please send things in with your child.
We have three classes in Year 1:
Blue class, Green class and Aqua class
They will be supported and guided through this important year by:-
All working together to help the children to achieve their full potential and to make good progress.
If you have any questions or concerns that you would like to discuss with us then please do drop into the office to make an appointment to see us, we are more than happy to meet with you.
We have been very happy to see so many of the children wearing their full correct school uniform and setting such a brilliant example for the rest of the school, thank you.
P.E. will be on Wednesdays. All children must have a school P.E. kit to change into. Please ensure these are named.
We encourage all children to bring a water bottle to class, which they can refill at regular intervals during the day in order to keep themselves well hydrated and to keep their brains working to the best of their ability. Please could you make sure that water bottles are labelled clearly with the child's full name.
In Year 1 reading at home is vitally important for the children, please remember that you have access to a wealth of Bug Club books to support this.
We expect the children to read out loud to an adult at least 5 times a week at home. Please sign, or put your initials on, the homework sheet to confirm that this has been completed. Spellings (choose 5-10 each week from the Year 1 list) and maths passports need to be completed at least twice a week. These also need to be signed for by an adult on the homework sheet. Further to this some children will continue to receive their phonics books and they should practise and consolidate the sounds and words at home.
Children should have their homework folders in school every day. Homework sheets will be checked in school on Thursdays.
Please remember to use My Maths at home to support your child's learning. Tasks will be set by teachers when appropriate to reinforce learning. General number activities can be accessed at any point.
As we move through the colder Winter months please ensure that children have a warm named coat/jacket so that they can access the outdoor area in all weather.
